Remembering Kevin Clement: The Pioneer and Heart of Chiller Theatre

Kevin Clement—affectionately known around the world as "Mr. Chiller"—
passed away at the age of 71 after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
He leaves behind a profound legacy as a visionary creator, a loyal friend,
and a foundational pioneer of modern fan conventions.

The Visionary Behind a Cultural Institution
A passionate musician, oil painter, and lifelong media collector, Kevin’s
ultimate masterpiece was the creation of the Chiller Theatre Expo 36 years ago.
Alongside a tight-knit circle of friends, Kevin changed the convention landscape
forever. Disillusioned by the impersonal "sign and move along" nature of older
shows, Kevin dreamed of a different kind of convention—one rooted in New
Jersey where guests stayed all weekend to genuinely meet, converse, and bond
with their fans.

What started as a bold risk became an absolute institution. For nearly four decades,
Chiller Theatre has served as "ground zero" for horror enthusiasts, filmmakers, actors,
and artists. Kevin celebrated monsters and the artists who brought them to life,
creating a vibrant, welcoming space where countless lifelong memories and
friendships were forged.

A Loyal Friend, Mentor, and "Pioneer"
Beyond his public identity as the "PT Barnum of New Jersey," Kevin was a
deeply cherished business partner, mentor, and confidant. Known as a stern
but fair professional, he possessed a rare gift for listening and offering wise,
steady guidance.

Kevin was famously generous with his time and his platform. He routinely used
his influence to elevate others, championing up-and-coming promoters, online
retailers, and artists when they were just starting out. He unselfishly gave his
blessing to competing shows, shared the "ins and outs" of the industry over
lunch, and was always just a phone call away to talk about movies, collectibles,
and life.

To those closest to him, some of the fondest memories of Kevin happened
away from the hectic convention floor—sharing long phone calls during his
commute between his New Jersey store and Pennsylvania home, grabbing
a late-night bite at Burger King, or ice cream at DQ. He was a master of
impressions—often bringing friends to tears laughing with his flawless takes
on his peers and classic horror hosts. Above all, Kevin filled his "bucket list"
many times over, even organizing dream meetings for fellow artists with
legendary figures like Frank Frazetta.

A Legacy That Lives On
Kevin is predeceased by his mother Mary and brother Richard. His memory
is lovingly carried forward by his daughter Sara, his sisters Veronica and Patricia,
his brother Michael, his extended family, and the massive, global "Chiller Family"
he spent his lifetime cultivating.
